Pt. Arjun Mishra


Born into traditional family of musicians in Varanasi, Arjun Mishra has started his training in vocal at the age of 5 under his father late Pt. Nanhu Mishra in "Gurukul" style undergoing a rigorous daily schedule of kathak "Riyaz". His final grooming and specialization were under Guru Pandit Birju Maharaj in Delhi Kathak Kendra. Soon Arjun Mishra emerged as dynamic and very brilliant Kathak Performer as well as dedicated teacher. Arjun Mishra's solo Dance has been applauded in the major cities of the country. The well known dancer-scholar Late Jeevan Pani describes him as "an accomplished Solo Artist who has earned many laurels from both the Press and the Public" as an expert teacher of Kathak who is "sincere and diligent with a great sense of responsibility". At very young age he started teaching Kathak first in Bhagalpur, then in the Kumudini Lakhia's famous "Kadamba" (Ahmedabad 1983-1987) and there after he became staff artistof Delhi Kathak Kendraas a prominent dancer in many of the framed ballets choreographed by Pandit Birju Maharaj. Kumudini Lakhia specially lauds Arjun's regularity and honesty as a Guru and his involvement in "Kadamba's Dance Productions". In 1998 Guru Arjun Mishra has established in Lucknow the "kathak Academy", a center for Kathak Training of Lucknow Gharana, where he assiduously keeps up his triple roles of Dancer, Guru and Choreographer through a stric work schedule. In Kathak Academy the training is based on the Guru Shishya Parampara, the students get the individual attention, special intensive classes and any kind of support to grow and mature into complete performing artists.
